Organization
We adopt the peer instruction method for the group session, which was found very effective in previous Clouidy workshops.
- We start with the broad topics given above, and the participants self-identify the closest to their research interests.
- The elevator talks are organized in these broad topics so that all participants who selected a topic would speak at about the same time. This is their first chance to see their team mates.
- The first day would be their first time together, during which they would discuss and agree upon a research direction they wish to address. At the end of the first day, they describe what they hope to do.
- During each group work period, the teams work together to figure out how to solve the problem. The three lectureres (=Cloidy developpers) wander around the room. If participants have questions, they can ask the lecturers. They can also ask some SOC members experienced with Cloudy in the Japanaes language.
- In practice, each participant team will have a mix of capabilities. Some may know much about Cloudy, others about Linux, and others about the latest XRISM or Subaru observations. It works out in the end.
- At the end of each day, each team gives a presentation outlining their progress and problems and what they will do next. The audience can make suggestions or observations.
- Their last presentation on the last day outlines the project and its conclusions.
Progress
- Day 1 (elevator talks): Hear elevator talks of others. Find out some people who you can work with.
- Day 1 (group session) Flock together. Sub-groups with 5-6 members are allowed within the five broad groups. Decide the title, acronym, work breakdown structure (who does what), and goal of the research. Send it to slack of your group channel.
- Day 1 (summary talk SOC will present the list of researches.
- Day 2-4 (group session) Keep working.
- Day 2-4 (summary talk) Present a short progress report (3 min per each sub-group).
- Day 5 (group session) Keep working.
- Day 5 (summary presentation by each group) Give a 15-20 min talk by each sub-group. Presentation format is up to each subgroup. Example: https://workshop.nublado.org/2019%20Lexington/participants.html
Remarks
- SOC provide the following for each group.
- One room.
- One slack channel.
- One LOC student, who serves as the room manager and the local guide for dining)
- One SOC member, who serves as the point of contact to the organizers.
- Some wizards (who replied "experienced" with cloudy).
- There will be a wide range of generations in each group.
- For junior members, please do not be afraid to speak up.
- For senior members, please respect junior members and do not treat them like your students.
- Summary talks on Day1-4 are held on fixed time (17:30-18:00) at fixed place (room 1236). Please come down by the time.
- You can continue your work after the summary talk. The rooms are open until 22:00.
